Will WWE Cancel WrestleMania 36? NOPE!!! 4 Times The Show Went On!

As we all know, Covid-19 has brought the sporting world (and life) to pretty much a standstill, with the majority of major sporting events being cancelled, postponed or being held behind closed doors this past few days... so what does this mean for WWE, and will WrestleMania 36 be cancelled?

With that in mind lets take a look at 4 times where WWE has taken the stance of "The Show Must Go On".....

#4 WWE Smackdown - Friday 13th March 2020 

Yes, the first entry on this list was actually held last night at WWE Performance Centre in Florida "Behind Closed Doors", after cancelling the live event which was scheduled to be held in Detroit, Michigan.

This was one of the most extreme measures ever taken by WWE in the face of adversity as WWE have proceeded with live events in arguably more serious/threatening/dangerous circumstances (but we'll get to that later).  Rather than cancel the event completely, good old Vinnie Mac pulled his usual stance of "The Show Must Go On" and proceeded with the event, albeit "Behind Closed Doors" in a different city & venue.

#3 Monday Night Raw - Chris Benoit Tribute Show

Over a 3 day period between 22nd-24th June 2007, WWE Superstar Chris Benoit murdered his wife & son before taking his own life in one of the biggest tragedies in Wrestling history (that's as much detail as we'll get into about that as we are sure you all know the story by now, if not....why are you even reading this article?)

Anyway, initially all that anyone (in WWE) knew was that Benoit had tragically died, thus WWE decided to dedicate an entire episode of Monday Night Raw to the Canadian Crippler.  It has been said that word about the true life events, in terms of the horrifying reality that Benoit had committed these heinous acts, had reached WWE top brass shortly after the show started, yet WWE decided to press on with the tribute for the remainder of the telecast.

To be fair to WWE, Vince McMahon did make a public apology before its ECW show the following night and Chris Benoit has never been referenced by WWE to this day!

#2 Over The Edge

Again, I'm sure y'all know this one well!  Anyway, on May 23rd 1999 at the Over The Edge PPV in Kansas City, Missouri,  Owen Hart (performing as The Blue Blazer) was tragically killed during a botched ring entrance where he was to descend from the ceiling Superhero style, however there was a malfunction with the equipment and Hart fell over 50ft to his death in the ring.

Did WWE call off the event.... NOPE!!!  After a short delay, while Owen was receiving medical attention, WWE proceeded with the event and finished the PPV!

#1 SmackDown - Post 9/11

The events September the 11th 2001 will forever be known as one of the most tragic & devastating events in US history.  In the aftermath of the terrorist attack ALL public events and mass gatherings were cancelled in the USA due to a "State of Emergency" with serious fears that other terrorist attacks were looming.  

Did this stop Vince McMahon & the WWE?.... NOPE!!!  Just 2 days after the 9/11 attacks, WWE held a WWE Smackdown event in Houston, Texas!  This was the largest public gathering of people in the United States since the horrific terrorist attack! Thus, despite all other major events being cancelled, WWE proceeded as normal.  "The Show Must Go On Dammit!!!"

WILL WRESTLEMANIA 36 BE CANCELLED?

In our opinion, WWE will follow their usual "The Show Must Go On" stance and the event will happen in some capacity, although it may have to be held behind closed doors! The only way the event won't take place at all (in our opinion) is if the United States government intervenes and forbids WrestleMania 36 from taking place!
